Mothers Adaptogenic Blend
Our mothers adaptogenic blend contains a unique formal of ashwagandha, Siberian ginseng & Bacopa. Ashwagandha has been used in Ayurvedic medicine to rejuvenate all systems within the body through reducing cortisol levels in chronically stressed individuals. Siberian ginseng works to maintain balance of your HPA axis, and has shown to improve cellular function and reduce overall fatigue. Finally, bacopa has well documented anxiolytic, adaptogenic and anti-inflammatory effects. It is believed that one of the active constituents in bacopa, bacosides, can help to enhance neuron health and improve nerve transmission, ultimately supporting a healthy cognitive function.
Protein
Optimising your protein intake in motherhood is an important nutritional foundation to have. Protein helps to support muscle health, stabilise blood sugar, mental health, bone health and may even support postpartum weight loss. The recommended dietary intake of protein is 46g (however this is only the minimum- typically mothers can thrive best off 1g of protein per kg of body weight) and can be found in foods like lean meats, seafood, eggs, nuts, seeds, legumes and mothers boost, which contains a blend of hemp and collagen protein.
Magnesium, Zinc & Vitamin C
Work together to support overall energy and nourish your nervous system. Magnesium is involved in over 600 biochemical reactions in the body and supports everything from energy to PMS and blood sugar balance. Zinc is needed to promote thyroid health, balance your hormones (yes- it can help support PMS & PCOS!) Low levels of zinc may also increase symptom severity of postnatal anxiety. Finally, vitamin C works to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, with some studies suggesting it may also support the function of calming neurotransmitters like GABA. Mothers Boost contains 85% of the RDI for magnesium, 90% of the RDI for zinc and 200% of the RDI for vitamin C.
B Vitamins, Iron & MCT Oil
These are your 3 best friends to support your energy! B vitamins are essential nutrients which promote energy, concentration and neurotransmitter synthesis. Mothers Boost contains both B6 & B12 needed in the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin (your happy hormone) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (helps to calm the nervous system). Iron is a mineral needed to support energy, reduce fatigue and promote maternal mental health, with a meta-analysis finding that anaemia during pregnancy & postpartum may increase risk of developing postpartum mood disorders. B12 helps support iron absorption and utilisation in the body. Finally, MCT oil is a fatty acid which can promote energy, endurance and cognitive function (all things a sleep deprived mama needs). Mothers Boost contains 56% of the RDI of iron & 200% of the RDI for B6 & B12.
Iodine & L-tyrosine
Iodine and tyrosine help to optimise your thyroid health. Your thyroid is a gland which regulates everything from your metabolism, energy, concentration, immune function and even hair growth (postpartum hair loss anyone?). Unfortunately, suboptimal thyroid conditions are common in mothers due to the increased physiological strain that pre-conception, pregnancy and postpartum can place on the body. Poor thyroid function is linked to everything from postnatal mood disorders, chronic fatigue and even brain fog. The recommended dietary intake of iodine is 150µg and is found in foods like salmon, eggs, dairy, seaweed, iodised salt and mothers boost- providing 75 µg of iodine. There is 200mg of l-tyrosine in Mothers Boost.
Lemon Balm & Matcha
Both lemon balm and matcha work to alleviate anxiety and nervous tension. Consumption of lemon balm has been shown to significantly improve symptoms of anxiety when compared to those who did not have lemon balm. Lemon balm may also help to improve cognition- bye bye mum brain! Matcha is an abundant source of l-theanine which works to reduce stress and anxiety. Studies have also found matcha to be incredibly beneficial for cognitive performance supporting both short and long term memory.
